Chinese weddings: customs and traditions of Asian Brides
Chinese wedding traditions have a very long history and are famous for their beauty and distinctiveness. Asian brides dream about their wedding since their childhood and always start preparing for this day in advance/ Traditionally speaking Chinese women will encounter six rites to complete a wedding ceremony although in the modern world it isn’t always possible to have all six sections in the traditional sense.
Asian brides traditionally go through a Nacai (formal proposal), Wenming (giving of the eight characters of prospective bride to the groom’s side), Naji (placement of the eight characters at the ancestral altar to confirm compatibility), Nazheng (sending of betrothal gifts to the bride and return gifts to the prospective groom), Qingqi (Selection of an auspicious wedding date) and finally Qinying, the wedding ceremony itself.
A lot of Asian brides might not follow these paths in the same sense that all Chinese women do but a lot of elements remains the same. Traditionally when a man’s parents identified a potential bride-to-be they’d present gifts to Chinese lady’s parents to gauge their feelings to the match. While most of the women on our Asian dating site would not go through this it is important to get approval from her parents to ensure that they are happy with the match as families play a large part in the lives of Chinese women.
With the one child policy in China family members can put on a lot of pressure to Chinese women to get married and you might find Asian brides are feeling the push from their families to find the perfect man.
Once a match has been agreed Asian brides tend to receive a dowry from the man’s family which could be money or goods as an approval of the match. While this is a tradition for Chinese women a lot of ladies on our Asian dating site are likely to not require a dowry.
Chinese women, just like most women dream of their wedding day from being a young child and it’s likely they will have a good idea about what they want on the big day. Choosing a wedding date can be a very important part of the process as Asian brides and their families tend to be very superstitious and want to get married on a lucky day. The number 8 is a lucky number in China so the 8th day of a month is always a popular bet, but 08.08 would be even luckier.
Asian brides are likely to wear a Western-style traditional white dress for the ceremony but change into a traditional cheongsam later in the day.
